The pipe band was formed by Pipe Major Mark Jamieson supported by a select group of like minded traditional musicians who believed that above all else, playing in a musical ensemble should be enjoyable and fun. Starting out as Pocklington Pipes & Drums in January 2019, we soon realised that we needed to think a bit “bigger” as our members came from right across East Yorkshire and beyond. We changed our name to East Riding Pipe Band in April 2021 in preparation for returning to post pandemic activities.
The band endeavours to maintain and open, honest and safe environment where all are equal and everyone is supported to fulfil their musical potential. Hopefully with a laugh or two along the way.
Coronavirus Pandemic -Update 29 March 2021
During these exceptional times, the band continues to practice every Tuesday evening using Skype. We have also now returned to restricted “traditional” practices in strict adherence with the government “rule of 6” guidelines. Currently, that involves meeting in our Pipe Major’s garden if the weather allows but that’s stricyly chanter and drum pad only during daylight hours!! We also continue to provide group and 1:1 tuition via Skype supported by a cloud based classroom.
If you would like to know more about taking up an instrument or you’re looking for a new challenge, get in touch as we’d love to hear from you. in January 2019
